Today, I had to risk my life driving to work on unplowed roads, while my girlfriend sat at home because of a snow day. If the roads are too dangerous for kids to go to school, then work should be canceled also. I live in Oneida, and work near Utica. Normally it takes me about 25 minutes to get to work, depending on traffic. This morning it took me almost 50 minutes to get to work. The roads were not plowed until I got to Kirkland, which is about 5 minutes away from wear I work. The drive is normally all 55 mph. This morning I did not go over 35mph, and I was fish-tailing everywhere.
How is it that everytime we get the first snow of the season, the roads are never plowed? This year the snow came late, and all of the plow people were just sitting around waiting for it to snow. WHY THE HELL WERE THE ROADS NOT PLOWED!!!! I was 30 minutes late for work this morning, but my boss understood because the weather was really bad. Twice a week I have to be into work at 5am, the roads are never plowed that early. The other 3 days a week I have to be in at 7, the roads should be plowed by 6:30 when I'm on the road. 7am seems like a normal time for people to go to work, there is always a lot of traffic on the roads. I would think that towns would want to have a clear, safe path for people to travel in the morning.

Luckily I didnt have to travel anywhere but to skill which is just across the street but roads were not pretty here in Corltand either. The parking lot to my apartment wasnt even touched. I tried to ride my bicycle to school but it wasnt easy getting through the parking lot. I dont know why the landlord didnt have any one plow it today. They still hadnt even done when I came back to the apartment at 5. As for the Town garage's i used to work at my home town one in the summer. We had to be at work at 5 in the morning and thats for the summer. During the winter the town garage workers are on call 24/7 and they are pretty good at keeping the roads clean. Sometimes I feel bad for them though because they basically have to work 24hr shifts just because the snow will not stop. Bigger towns though I could understand why some roads are not plowed. Good luck during next snow fall.
ReplyDeleteYea the roads here are terrible, not to mention the campus. The thin sheets of ice have spread all over campus and I nearly killed myself walking down the stairs today. I had to move my car the other day and I was so afraid I was going to slip out of control because there was so much ice and I didn't want to hit another car. The roads and sidewalks need to be salted and sanded down to prevent people from getting into accidents and falling on their asses. There's a bucket of salt just sitting in the lounge in my building and I'm tempted to just do it myself. I can't even lift my feet to walk I literally have to slide through campus so I don't fall. They blocked off one of the staircases to my building because no one took care of the ice and no one probably will.
ReplyDeleteI was confused about this too.. I come from Long Island where there isn't that much snow, but regardless they jump on it when it snows even the slightest bit.. I figured it would be even more here since its a snowy community but I was wrong.. makes me wonder.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why the snow is never removed. I almost slip and fall every time I leave my dorm. It seems like there is nobody working on or around campus to get rid of the snow. Back home it is always removed in a reasonable amount of time. I don't know why they don't have better removal plans here considering they get more snow.
ReplyDeleteI hate it when the roads are un-plowed. I live in an area near Syracuse and the roads are really bad. When I was still in high school the roads would be horrible and we would still have to drive on them to get to class it was really bad and even some of the buses would go off the road.
